Crochet Hoop Earrings- Hemptique Collab

These earrings gave me a chance to play around with both the new hemp yarn and the earring hoops I had in my jewelry supply stash. It was fun to experiment and come up with three styles of earrings. I’d say these aren’t super complicated, but the hemp yarn and working around the hoop can be a minor challenge to the absolute beginner. It took me a minute to adjust my hands to holding the hoop and being able to comfortably stitch around it while still maintaining my tension.

This pattern is made in collaboration with Hemptique who sent me their hemp cord to test out and review. I’m very grateful to share the collection of patterns and my review with you. You can read my full review here, as well as the other patterns from the collection I designed. This set of patterns is also a celebration of pride month! As a queer artist, I’m excited to find materials to express myself, and the colorways I chose from Hemptique reflect my love and pride to be part of the LGBTQIA+ community. I am also grateful to collaborate with a yarn brand to so enthusiastically sign on to me making these in honor of pride month! (get 10% off Hemptique yarn with my affiliate code “SCARLET10” )

Instructions

Luckily, these earrings are pretty straightforward! Were just gonna take our earring hoops and crochet around them! Before you begin crocheting you will need to secure the earring hoop, so the side doesn’t slip open while you are stitching. This happened to me quite a bit until I got the hang of closing the hoop. The best way to do this is to pull it open, then push the wire back into the top closure and bend the wire so it cannot come back out. For some of my first tries with these earrings (these were my first pieces with earring hoops!) I used the tail to secure the ends by stitching to the first stitch.

Simple Hoops

Sc around the hoop.

Cut yarn. Weave in ends!

Add jump rings and attach to earrings.

Ruffle Hoops

Row 1: Sc crochet around the hoop, turn

Row 2: ch 1, hdc 2 in each sc across

Cut yarn. Weave in ends!

Add jump rings and attach to earrings.

Scallop Hoops

Row 1: [sc 1, hdc 1, dc 3, hdc 1, sc 1, sl st 1] rep 7 more times

Cut yarn. Weave in ends!

Add jump rings and attach to earrings.

These are definitely on the simpler side of patterns I’ve made, but I think they are cute! Also, with yarn like this the colors do a lot for the design. The stitching doesn’t have to be too complex because the yarn blends into the coloryways so nicely no matter how you stitch it.
