This pattern is made in collaboration with Hemptique who sent me their hemp cord to test out and review. I’m very grateful to share the collection of patterns and my review with you. You can read my full review here, as well as the other patterns from the collection I designed. This set of patterns is also a celebration of pride month! As a queer artist, I’m excited to find materials to express myself, and the colorways I chose from Hemptique reflect my love and pride to be part of the LGBTQIA+ community. I am also grateful to collaborate with a yarn brand to so enthusiastically sign on to me making these in honor of pride month! (get 10% off Hemptique yarn with my affiliate code “SCARLET10” )

I think this may be my favorite design from the collection, but it’s hard to say because I do love them all. Still, the crochet “chain” is a motif I’ve used a few times in my work but always love. It always gets a chuckle from myself and other crocheters for the pun! I also love a piece, especially a jewelry piece with movement. This is totally a fidget friendly necklace.

The use of hemp in this project is important in getting that structural look to the chain links. I also have quickly fallen in love with the hemp fiber the more I’ve both used it and learned about it.

Instructions

Chain links (make 8)

Row 1: Ch 21, turn

Row 2: hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc across- 20 hdc

Cut yarn, leave long tail.

Block each link flat.

Weave in the short tail. Use the long tail to connect the ends together.

After connecting the first chain make sure to connect the chain around the last before stitching them together.

When you’ve connected all the chains, add jump rings to the first and last crochet chain links to connect them to the actual chains of the necklace. Add a clasp with a jump ring to one side of the necklace.

You can make as many chain links as you’d like to increase or decrease the length of the necklace.
